COM Career Services welcomes all College of Communication students to visit our offices often. We are here to assist you in all aspects of your career development from the time you enter BU to the time you graduate. We also offer services and resources to COM Alumni. We can help you learn about the importance of networking, provide a suggested timetable for using COM Career Development, and share cover letter and resume samples to help you get started. Our COM graduate students can count on our in-house Career Services department to help them plan their careers and search for jobs and internships.
In addition to these appointment-based services, the Career Services team also hosts a number of career fairs throughout the semester in which they bring in representatives and recruiters from a number of agencies and companies throughout the Greater Boston Area; these are invaluable opportunities to shake hands with folks you might want to work with over the summer or after graduation and expand your networking base.
Our services include:
BU Handshake: our online job and internship database.
Resume Review: in-office during the school year.
Seminars are offered throughout the year on a variety of subjects, including from networking and getting internships.
ADWeek Directory/PRWeek Directory/Hollywood Creative Directory: directories full of essential company information to assist with your job search.
Going Global: 80,000 page database containing domestic and international career guides, corporate profiles, 600,000 worldwide job and internship openings and a proprietary collection of H1B visa employer listings.
Where do COM Grads go?
Sure, we've all heard of COM's distinguished alumni, including:
Pete Souza, official White House photographer
Sergio Floris, Head of Entertainment Latin America, Global Content Partnerships, Twitter
Raymond Kotcher, Former Chairman at Ketchum and Professor of the Practice of Public Relations at COM
Corrine Brinkerhoff, television writer and producer, Boston Legal and The Good Wife
Bill Simmons, the Sports Guy
But we know that for many potential graduate students, the real question is not "Where will I be in 30 years?" but, "Where will I be in 2 years?" Here is a sampling of recent graduates to give you an idea of the kind of job you can expect in the years following graduation.
